1. Information We Collect

We collect minimal data necessary to provide our news service:

• Push Notification Token — When you allow notifications, we store your device's Expo push token to send you news alerts. This token is anonymous and does not identify you personally.
• Device Type — We record whether your device is Android or iOS to optimise notification delivery.
• Usage Preferences — Your preferred news category, district, and language setting are stored locally on your device only (using AsyncStorage). We do not send these to our servers.
• Story Interactions — When you view or share a story, we count anonymous views and shares. No personal data is attached.

2. Information We Do NOT Collect

• We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any personal identifiers.
• We do not require you to create an account or log in.
• We do not track your location.
• We do not sell your data to any third party.
• We do not use advertising SDKs or analytics that track you across apps.
• We do not access your contacts, camera, microphone, or files.

3. How We Use Your Information

• Push Notifications — Your push token is used solely to send you Kannada news notifications and morning briefings. You can disable notifications at any time from your phone settings.
• Improving the App — Anonymous view and share counts help us understand which stories are most relevant to our readers.

4. News Content and RSS Feeds

Suddi ಸುದ್ದಿ is a news aggregator that fetches headlines and brief summaries from publicly available RSS feeds published by Kannada news organisations. The sources we currently aggregate from include:

• Prajavani (prajavani.net)
• Kannada Prabha (kannadaprabha.com)
• TV9 Kannada (tv9kannada.com)
• Google News Kannada (news.google.com)

We only store and display headlines and brief summaries as provided in public RSS feeds. We do not reproduce, copy, or host full articles. Tapping any story opens the original publisher's website directly in a browser view — the publisher receives all traffic and advertising revenue from article reads.

All content is displayed with clear source attribution on every story card. All intellectual property rights in the content remain with the respective publishers.

5. Content Removal Requests

To submit a content removal request:

• Email us at contact@suddi.app
• Include the name of the publication and the specific content you wish to have removed
• Include your name and your relationship to the rights holder

We will acknowledge your request within 48 hours and remove the specified content within 7 business days upon verification of a valid request. We may also remove an entire source from our feed upon a publisher's written request.

6. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

• Expo Push Notifications (by Expo) — Delivers push notifications to your device. Expo Privacy Policy →

• Render — Our backend server is hosted on Render.com. Render Privacy Policy →

None of these services are given access to any personal data from our users.

7. Data Storage and Security

Push tokens are stored on our secure backend server hosted on Render. They are stored in a JSON database with no public access. We do not share, sell, or transfer your push token to any third party other than Expo (which uses it solely to deliver notifications).

Your app preferences (category, district, language, saved stories) are stored locally on your device and are never transmitted to our servers.

8. Children's Privacy

Suddi ಸುದ್ದಿ is a general news app suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13. The app contains only news content and no user-generated content, purchases, or social features.

9. Your Rights and Choices

• Notifications — You can turn off push notifications at any time in your phone's Settings → Apps → Suddi → Notifications.
• Data Deletion — Since we only store your anonymous push token, you can request its deletion by contacting us at the email below. Alternatively, uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data.
• No Account Needed — You can use the entire app without providing any personal information.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the app evolves. We will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page when changes are made. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

11. Permissions We Request

• INTERNET — Required to fetch and display news stories.
• ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE — To detect if you are connected to the internet.
• POST_NOTIFICATIONS (Android 13+) — To send you news notifications, only if you grant permission.
• RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED — To schedule morning briefing notifications after phone restart.
• VIBRATE — For notification vibration alerts.
